Get licensed
- Complete your state's Life & Health pre-licensing course
- Schedule and pass the Life & Accident & Health exam
- Submit fingerprints / background check as your state requires
- Apply for and receive your resident insurance license (Wyoming or Utah)
Certify
- Complete AHIP certification for the plan year (ask about a discount code first)
- Complete each carrier's product certification for the plans you'll sell
- Save copies of every certificate — you'll need them to activate appointments
Get appointed & protected
- Choose an agency or FMO (confirm you own your book and the release policy)
- Contract and get appointed with the carriers strong in your area
- Obtain errors & omissions (E&O) insurance and submit proof to carriers
- Confirm you're 'ready to sell' (RTS) for each carrier before you market
Set up to sell
- Set up a CRM and a compliant call-recording workflow
- Learn Scope of Appointment (SOA) rules and keep the forms handy
- Build a simple first-clients plan (people you know turning 65, referrals)
- Line up mentorship — shadow experienced agents on your first cases
- Review CMS marketing rules before you advertise anything
